Exam rules

The final exam

This page sets out how the final exam works, the rules you agree to when you sit it, and what happens if something goes wrong.

At a glance

  • The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions, drawn at random from a larger bank of questions.
  • You have 75 minutes.
  • You need 70% to pass.
  • You answer one question at a time and cannot go back to an earlier question.
  • The exam is closed book. Your camera, microphone and, on a computer, your screen are recorded for the whole exam.
  • Reloading the exam page is allowed. The page has to open again within 90 seconds, or the exam is submitted as it stands.
  • If the recording stops because of a technical problem, the exam does not count as an attempt. You can start a fresh exam two times on your own; after that, a member of our staff sets up the next one.
  • If you fail, you can sit the exam again at no extra cost, up to ten attempts in total.
  • A member of our staff reviews every flagged exam, and every exam that ended because you left it, before a certificate is issued. The decision comes within 24 hours.
